Howdy! I have been missing this year, haven't I?
Well, this is my first blog post, as promised in my recent tutorial. A friend on facebook sent me some images from a 1952 Hairstyling book , which I think is called '10 Hollywood Hairstyles' by Arlene Dahl. I found very little info online about the source. But I found the setting patterns really fun and interesting looking, especially since the styles were accomplished using different methods than I would have used myself. So I decided to try one, using the setting pattern described, for a Hedy Lamarr inspired style.
Here is the video:
Here is the image for the setting pattern:
And here is my version, on longer hair. I feel that the top setting is a bit off, since the photo shows that the front hair lays relatively flat and stand up pin curls don't really lend themselves to a flat wave. I think a flat upward-facing pin curl would be a better option, personally:
Anyway, I promised to provide you with the other scanned setting patterns and haircut advice for these looks. Have fun trying them!
Thanks guys! Sponsor Salute for January coming Friday!

Lovely as always!
Here is the cover of the book: http://atomicpanther.wordpress.com/2012/09/08/10-hollywood-hairstyles/
Love that there is a page on Elizabeth Taylor!! I have been looking for something just like this that describes how to get her hair style. I will be trying it soon, after my hair cut (eek!)
What an amazing book!
I think instead of rolling the top curls down toward the face I would have rolled them down towards the sides just like the ones on the sides. That might have made them lay a little flatter on top, maybe?
I am a huge fan of most of these stars especially Vera-Ellen (Have you seen her "french" routine in "Three Little Words"? AMAZING). Can't wait to try some of these sets.
Loved this!!!! May I ask what products you used on your lips, they help make the look!
